A mallard trying to balance
on a piece of log in the pond
that kept sinking beneath him

Happened to catch our four little orphan woods
hiking back to our pond from the pond two yards down ...

And down, into the drainage ditch behind the pond,
only to appear in the pond just minutes later!

Enjoying swing time in the shade this afternoon 

Conrad was observing a female wood duck in the pond,
hoping to see that maybe she'd take ownership of the few remaining orphans,
but no such luck.  

And instead, after observing her fly into the
nesting box a couple of times, we decided to check the box,
and caught us totally off guard!  On Wednesday, the hatch
of 19 were in here, and now, another batch of eggs.
Can't believe that these will actually hatch yet too.
